RODENTSRoof RatsNorway RatsHouse Mouse2006 -- Signs of rodents may be scratching in the ceiling or walls. A good rule of thumb is noises in the night usually will be of rats or mice. Squirrels are more active during daylight hours, though there can always be exceptions to this rule. Rodents will continually leave droppings where they travel about, so many times that can be the first sign of problems. Size of droppings may be helpful in distinguishing rats from mice, but not always in determining a mouse problem. The large outdoor roaches can leave behind droppings actually larger than mice. Rub marks can be another way of discovering rodent activity. Oils in the animal's pelt will create a grease mark where they continually contact a wall.
